About Us

Tammy McGrath, LMT

For Touchstone Bodyworks' owner, Tammy McGrath, an understanding of the power of touch came at a very young age. "I have memories of my mom rubbing my back so I could fall asleep at night, and others of making my way around the dining room table at my grandmother's, massaging each person's shoulders and neck as I went. I think I was 7 or 8 years old then." Years later, Tammy found herself enrolled in the therapeutic massage program at Spa Tech Institute, then located in South Portland, Maine. She knew she was finally on the right path.

After graduation from Spa Tech in 2004, Tammy established Touchstone Bodyworks in Gray, Maine. Touchstone Bodywork's current location - the Lower Level of One Gray Center - is a spacious, welcoming studio located in the heart of the town.

The building itself has an interesting history, once having been the local hardware and general store, and prior to that, housing the local District Court offices. A fire leveled the building some years ago, but happily, it has been rebuilt and is home to several local businesses on the lower and first levels, with residential tenants living on the top floor.

Tammy and her family have lived in the Gray-New Gloucester area since 1998. She is actively involved within the community, as a fundraiser and former board member of the GNG football program, as well as a 2006 Toys for Tots sponsor. Tammy understands the value of networking and supporting local business, and actively seeks affiliation, passing referrals to those who are committed to providing service excellence to their customers.

"I believe in providing only the highest quality service to my clients. It's no accident that the name of my business is 'touchstone', which according to the American Standard Dictionary means “an excellent quality or example that is used to test the excellence or genuineness of others; a standard.” In my practice, it is my mission to provide my clients with professional holistic massage and bodywork services that surpass the “standard.“ Not only am I committed to providing a safe, respectful, and caring environment in which my clients may find the healing they require, but I also have great gratitude for the privilege of working with people while they are on their path to better health and wellness."

Currently, Tammy uses a number of modalities to achieve results with her clients. Most sessions include a combination of therapeutic massage techniques, such as Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular, trigger point and thermo therapies, all of which may be integrated with healing bio-energy techniques. In the Spring of 2008, Touchstone Bodyworks also launched its Pediatric Alternative Therapies program, offering services to those families with special needs children seeking alternatives to medication.
