Ear Candling

Ear candling (also known as "Ear Coning") is a gentle, relaxing procedure that removes excess wax from the ear. This is an ancient technique that has been used by many cultures and has been found to help improve hearing (and sometimes smell also), reduce sinus pressure, and can often help vertigo and tinnitus (ringing in the ears).

Most people find the procedure very relaxing since there should be no pain or discomfort at any time during the candling process (if the person finds it uncomfortable, the session should stop immediately). The session begins with the person being candled lying comfortably on their side. The smaller end of a cone-shaped candle made of cotton and beeswax is inserted into the ear canal. When the larger end (away from the ear) is lit, a vacuum is created, drawing excess ear wax and debris from the ear canal. The person being ear candled will hear constant crackling sounds of the fire during the candling process.

It's important to note that some people would not be good candidates and should not use ear candles, such as those who have had ear, nose, throat or sinus surgery recently, and those with tubes in the ears. Anyone with ear drum rupture, perforation, or experiencing bleeding of the ear, should see a doctor, as this indicates a more serious ear problem than candling can address.

While some people are skeptical about the results from ear candling, proponents of it say that they swear by it as a safe and natural means of ear wax removal. I personally have received several ear candling sessions and can tell you that, as someone who has chronic congestion from allergies, including loss of hearing due to fluid in my eustachian tubes (again, from allergies), I've had great results. Not only did my hearing improve, but my sinuses also cleared, allowing for a better sense of smell! (Results may vary)

A session typically takes about 45 minutes to candle both ears.
